The CNRS honors Andrey Klymchenko: the 2026 Silver Medal for the Photoactive Materials and Bioimaging team!

The Laboratory of Bioimaging and Pathology is immensely proud to announce that Andrey Klymchenko, director of the Photoactive Materials and Bioimaging team, has been awarded the 2026 CNRS Silver Medal. This prestigious award recognizes the originality, quality, and international impact of his work on fluorescent probes for bioimaging, a field at the forefront of innovations for visualizing cellular structures and processes, as well as for the development of smart fluorescent nanomaterials (nanosensors, biomarkers).

Recognition for Excellence in Research

Each year, the CNRS Silver Medal honors researchers whose exceptional contributions extend far beyond the boundaries of science. For Andrey Klymchenko, this award crowns years of research in molecular bioimaging, with promising applications in medical diagnostics and targeted therapy. His work, supported by the European Research Council (ERC), the ANR, the Jean-Marie Lehn Foundation, and other partners, has notably led to:

  • The development of innovative fluorescent probes to explore cellular mechanisms.
  • The design of nanosensors to detect bioactive molecules or disease biomarkers.
  • The transfer of these technologies to clinical practice, through collaborations with the startups BrightSens Diagnostics and AstraNICE, supported by SATT CONECTUS.
  •

A Collective Success

Andrey Klymchenko was keen to emphasize that this award belonged first and foremost to his team :

“It is a great honor to receive this medal. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the current and former members of the Photoactive Materials and Bioimaging team for their hard work on our projects, […]. I would like to thank all our collaborators who have opened the door to exciting new

Congratulations Andrey !
